Rattan Furniture And Accessories Reveal Their Casual And Versatile Nature

Rattan Furniture And Accessories Reveal Their Casual And Versatile ature

We’re all familiar with rattan furniture, although sometimes we think it’s one and the same as wicker. But the material we now associate with cozy furniture is actually full of surprises. The term rattan, for instance, defines more than 600 species of climbing palms and a lot of them are in fact more similar to lianas than to actual wood. Rattan has slender stems and doesn’t grow like a tree but more like a vine, also being a bit similar to bamboo from certain points of view.

Rattan and wicker furniture can also be quite refined. There are plenty of iconic designs that inspired the world. You can always consider this option when it comes to furnishing an outdoor space such as a deck, a terrace or a garden or backyard. Of course, you can also bring rattan furniture indoors where it would have a casual character. It would be an opportunity for you to think outside the box and to achieve a cozy and inviting ambiance in an unusual and intriguing way.

Minimalist Home Decor - Check Out This Singapore Home

When it comes to Minimalist Home Decor, this Scandinavian-inspired dream home in Singapore is worth a second look!

Minimalist Home Decor

For some time now, the love affair with Scandinavian and industrial-style interiors in Singapore has been going strong. These minimalist concepts appeal to many for whom the home is a reflection of individual style and personality. However, for this young couple who holidays in Scandinavia frequently, it’s about bringing shared memories and their love of the region into the home.

They roped in Stephen Goh and Angela Tantry, founders of Metaphor Studio, to spearhead the design and construction of their two-storey loft duplex. “The challenges the space presented included translating the trendy industrial look into a luxe Scandinavian ‘barn’ setting and fine-tuning the design profile, proportions and details to complement the owners’ deep appreciation for Scandinavian fine furniture and design,” says Goh.

The team used the same finish, saw-cut elm wood laminates, on the walls and low ceiling in the dining and cosy corners for a warm, intimate atmosphere. These laminates contrast against the dark finishes, such as the charcoal grey interlocking slate tiles, in the double-volume living area. “We used tiles to reduce the amount of reflection from the existing polished marble flooring. It’s one of the strategies to cope with the glare issue from the large windows,” says Goh. “They also give the opportunity to highlight the loft space.” Following the design team’s recommendations on the styles of artworks that will add to the interior, the couple opted for bold calligraphy pieces that complement the broad, black strokes throughout the home.

Home Décor Tips for Newlyweds

Home Décor Tips for Newlyweds

As newlyweds, setting up a home together is one of the most treasured experiences, as it gives the couple a detailed understanding of each other’s tastes. Here are a few tips that couples could follow to make their home a reflection of their personalities.

Comfort comes first

Decorating a home, as a couple, is not only about making the space look good, it is also about ensuring that it is a comfortable one to live in. So, while a piece of modern furniture may look perfect for the living room, what’s the point in investing in it if it’s too fancy to laze on?

Code for choosing colour

History is witness to the bickering that most couples have indulged in to get their favourite colour on the wall. Rather than argue, it’s advisable that couples zero in on one colour each that they want to see the room painted in and find ways to ensure these shades complement each other.

Statement style

Building your home together is a joint effort. So, find something you both love and can use to adorn your home. It could be anything such as a fancy rug you spotted at an exhibition, an antique in a flea market or even an artwork from a local art store. If you both love it, it’s time to bring it home.

Home design for the modern family

EXG OCT 16 home style Jon Pilling, the design director at Abode Interiors, explains how he went about designing the Mulberry show home at St Luke’s Park development in Runwell, with his inspiration coming from the themes of modern family life.

Home design for the modern familyWhen I started this project, the brief was to create a ‘real’ family home with a space that people can relate to and easily imagine themselves living in. It was important for it not to feel like a show home, so to achieve this and create a coherent design, every room needed to accurately reflect those who would be using it.

We had to focus on the type of person who’d be likely to buy a house in St Luke’s Park, their family, their tastes and how they live. Creating the style of interiors that would appeal to such a buyer, we took inspiration from the local area, visiting the site and the surrounding spaces.

Home design for the modern family

Runwell is an upmarket, tranquil and rural location, which still has easy access to neighbouring towns and transport connections, while the house itself is a traditional, large family home. Inspired by this, we chose to use navy, as an accent colour against calming neutral greys and ivories. Navy is a very relevant colour at the moment, however by keeping this to the accessories, it can easily be changed in the future.

The kitchen is the heart of any family home, where everyone naturally congregates. The open-plan kitchen/dining/family room is impressively large, with a huge amount of natural light from the double doors leading to the garden, full-height windows and skylights. Just like windows, mirrors add depth and light to a room. This multipurpose room needed to be a practical space, and by choosing the furniture and layout carefully, we created separate areas which would encourage and enable the whole family to spend quality time together.

5 Hour Dining Room Makeover Under $300

5 Hour Dining Room Makeover Under $300

So, I did something completely crazy the other day. My mom went out of town, and I thought I would surprise her with redoing her dining room. We’ve talked about a few things in the past, but never actually said that we were going to do anything. I planned on having the weekend, 2 days to complete the transformation by myself. Well, my 2 days turned into 5 hours. I didn’t know until the Friday before that she was coming home early on Saturday instead of late Sunday. I still wanted to do something, so I gave a swing at it and this is what happened 🙂 You can also find a video at the bottom to check out the hour by hour coverage!

Her house has gone through quite the transformation already since she bought it. The dining room was one of them. The dining room used to be twice this size. She put a dividing wall down the middle to create a bedroom on the other side. She then carved out a hole (which you’ll see below) to make it more open concept through the converted garage/living room. She always felt that the dining room just looked like a huge hole in the wall…which, it kind of was. So, we decided we needed to add more character to tie it in with the rest of the space.

Here’s the list I wanted to get done:

Add square board and batten to the back wall

Change out baseboards

Refinish and add a new top to the existing table

Decorate -new rug, curtains, chairs, wall art, and accessories

Add board and batten 2/3 up the two adjacent walls

Trim window

This is the “Before Picture”

I was hopeful that all of this was going to get done, but I decided to prioritize the list just in case I couldn’t do it all. So, I placed the most important and impactful things first.

This Stylish Mumbai Loft is More Than a Bachelor Pad

This stylish Mumbai loft is more than a bachelor pad

The floral print wallcovering in the guest bedroom is from Elitis. The closet is finished in back painted glass

Envisioned by P S Design of the city, the 3BHK abode radiates a bohemian old-world chateau vibe with a taste of modern appeal. “We got to experiment with the decor in the living room, where the base palette is mostly neutral thanks to the white walls. This is accentuated by deep red and brown shades of fabrics on chairs and cushions,” discloses Priyanka Pradeep, principal architect of the firm.

In the living room, most of the furniture is customised, while the trunk is from Sanctum and the barrel shaped pouffe is from Country Villa Decor

Art pieces and furniture that could summon gladiators. A ceiling that harkens architecture from ancient Europe. Statement furniture that looks mottled with age…. Medieval castle? Try actor Kushal Tandon’s living room in his modern vintage Mumbai loft.

This stylish Mumbai loft is more than a bachelor padThe client’s primary requirement was to have an open common area that would allow him to entertain his guests. “Light and movable furniture was crafted by the in-house team so that the residents could allot plenty of space for dancing and moving around,” she adds. The bar unit next to the dining area in the same room is the highlight of the space, where the top of the unit houses the mirror finished bar and the bottom has room to stow crockery.
