A house or an apartment that doesn’t have a number lacks identity. The house number is an important part of a home’s look and character so why should yours look generic when you can make it stand out from all the other house numbers? The best way to get a unique look is by customizing it yourself. We’re talking about DIY house numbers which you can either make from scratch or personalize with a few custom touches.

For example, if you have a house with stone walls, you should be able to complete this project without any complications. Hello! Are you ready for the weekend? I’ll be working on a fun project in the basement — I hope to share it with you next week!
I kind of can’t believe it but it’s true…I am ahead of the game with a decor trend. This NEVER happens. Usually I’ll sit by and watch to see if I really like something — for years — and buy into some of them when they’re not even trendy anymore. It’s my thing.
But THIS time I am right there in it and even though I don’t find it “trendy” at all, the color BLUE is all the rage this spring. I think it will continue on throughout the year so if you are a blue lover, rejoice! We are cutting edge my friends! 🙂
But I could care less and could write a whole post just on trends. I say if you like them, use them. If you don’t, DON’T. Who cares, it’s your house!
I’ve noticed blue in many places lately and had to share some of my favorite instances of it and how to use it well. I was at the fancy mall yesterday and was drooling at all of the pretty blues used in the Pottery Barn displays. You can see some beautiful ways to incorporate in their latest catalog:
Blue is a chameleon. It looks clean and crisp with white, and can easily go nautical. But with the right touches it can also be both traditional like the photo above, and contemporary like below:
It’s all in how you style it. There’s something wonderful about this color — it’s grounding like black but with the punch of color. At the same time it’s very soothing and easy on the eyes:
We visited the Indy Home Show last weekend and the model home this year (by Fischer Homes) was gorgeous as always. It had a slightly nautical feel but it went much more modern than I’ve seen before. There was blue everywhere, which I loved!:
The walls in the bedroom were navy blue grasscloth — stunning!
I was obsessed with the dark blue vent hood in the kitchen:

Blue is a beautiful color alone but works well with every color — I honestly haven’t seen a blue combo I didn’t like. I always lean towards a more classic/traditional combination with white or neutrals, but this color really does work with anything.

Can you imagine being comfortable on a chair that has no armrests? It’s actually not that uncommon and definitely not a new trend. Plenty of traditional or vintage chairs featured an armless design. The idea is even less odd and unusual when you take into consideration that armless sofas and loveseats are also a thing and in some cases they don’t even stand out because of this design detail.

It’s part of a collection which includes a matching sofa and these can be used together in a setting such as a family room or lounge area. The chair has oak wood legs and a design that’s as unusual as it is comfortable.

Armless chairs come in a variety of different forms and styles. You can find a ton of cool chairs that fit this description in stores and if you want you can even use the idea as your inspiration for a new DIY project. Feel free to customize your old chairs not by adding something to their design but by actually removing an important feature. There are lots of uses for armless chairs.
One option is to use them as accent seats for the living room. You can use them in combination with an armless loveseat or sofa to create a casual seating arrangement. Another option is to have a set of armless chairs placed around the dining table. Their comfortable seats and backrests would be the key features in this case and, when you think about it, the armrests would only be in the way.
Other configurations can be just as promising and enjoyable. Picture a comfortable chair with an upholstered seat and backrest and a matching footstool or ottoman in the corner of a bedroom or in a library. It would be a pretty great reading nook. Add a side table and the image is complete.

Cozy up your bedroom or living room with this DIY embroidered home sweet home throw pillow! It makes your couch extra inviting and adds a fun pop of color to any room. I love having a couch or bed piled high with different pillows. This embroidered throw pillow is one of my favorite throw pillows on my couch because I made it myself. Figure out what phrase you want on your pillow and then if you have good handwriting write it out using the embroidery pen. If, like me, you don’t have good handwriting, then you can type out the phrase you want to use in a font you like in a blank document. Then, you can use your computer like a light table by turning the brightness up all the way on your screen and put your pillowcase on the screen. This makes it so you can see the lettering shine through and simply trace the lettering using your embroidery pen.
Stick the smaller of the two circles of the embroidery hoop inside the pillowcase and then put the bigger one on top so your first letter is encircled. Make sure you are inside the pillowcase or you’ll sew the whole case together when you begin to embroider!
View in galleryThread your needle with embroidery thread and tie a knot at the end of the string. Starting with the needle inside the pillowcase, poke it through the corner of your first letter and then pull the needle and thread all the way through. Bring the needle and thread back through on the other corner of that leg of the letter. You’ll keep stitching back and forth until the whole letter is filled in.

View in galleryOnce your letter is finished, tie it off and move on to the next letter. Do this until your whole phrase is finished. For sewing the “sweet,” we used a simple running stitch. To do this, begin the same way as you did above, tying the knot and starting inside the pillowcase. Stitch in and out along the online of the word until you’ve gotten back to the start.
